SCOTT PANCHIK Q&A
What was your favorite event at this year's games?
My favorite workout was the final event. The workout had snatches, rope climbs and wall walks which are some of my favorite movements. It was really exciting to know going into it that if I won that event I won the Games. Easily one of my favorite sport moments of my life.
Knowing you had to win the final event to win the competition, how did you feel going into that last workout?
I was more nervous coming out of the first event in 17th place than I was going into the last workout. Those moments where you have a chance to show up and shine to win are incredible.

What or where do you think you could have done better over the course of the weekend?
I had a few moments that I lost focus and it cost me a few places. The sled push event I forgot they changed the sled push to 4 lengths, and I also missed my last clean and jerk which dropped me a good bit stacking up at the 335lbs mark. Overall I felt very prepared for the weekend.

Will you be back next year to defend your title and make it a repeat?
Yes as long as my body is feeling good, you will see me on the floor. I love this community and someday I want to run out there with my wife or kids.
The name Scotty P? Where does that come from?
That’s a nickname I have had for a while since I started CrossFit. My son and daughter call me it from time to time. They also think it’s funny to call me big fella!
Finally, how do you sum up your past year leading up to the Games win?
The crazy thing is I almost didn't sign up for the Open this year. Not because I didn't want to, but because I didn't think my body could handle it. The last few years have been a grind, coming back from three knee surgeries.
CrossFit became humbling all over again as I figured out the right amount of fitness for this season of my life. When I lacked motivation, I leaned in on consistency. Yes, that means I had a lot of bad days. Eventually I found my way, but it wasn't on my own. It was the power of the community.
