THE MAN BEHIND THE MUSCLE
London-born and raised in part in Germany, Mikey Steele had to endure multiple significant life changes within the first decade of his life.
“My mother is half German; I was born in London but moved to Germany as a baby. We only moved back to the UK when I was eight, so I learned English as my second language,” Mikey says. “Luckily, I had my younger brother to go through the big life changes with, but they certainly taught me resilience and how to adapt to different situations.”

Active when he was younger, Mikey spent the majority of his childhood playing football and in the local park. From a young age though, he knew that he wanted to join the armed forces.
“I always wanted to join the military, so I did. I signed up for The Royal Navy at 16 years old and remained in the forces for seven years,” he says.

Mikey would watch old videos from the CrossFit Games to get motivated before going to the gym. “I’d watch these old videos and then head into the gym. After six months of following CrossFit, it made sense to give it a go, so I joined the local CrossFit gym and I never looked back.”
“I left the Navy because I started competing internationally more, so needed more and more time off,” he says. Post-Navy, Mikey started to PT and coach, and began helping 16–19-year-olds prepare for basic training for the military.
