WHY WE RUN - GLOBAL RUNNING DAY 2026

To celebrate Global Running Day 2026 we asked our trail athletes and ambassadors a simple question - Why do you run?

Their personal answers highlighted everything from escapism to mental wellbeing and much more. Read them all below.

A sport that gives so much to so many, running deserves to be celebrated..... not just one day a year, but every day.

Why do you run?

Andy Berry: "Running always started as a way to see as much mountain terrain as possible for the time that I am out there. That has never truly changed. Running is my way of being a part of the landscape and adventure that inspires me and brings me joy."

Tommy Lewis: "I guess I run because it's simple, and I'm simple. It makes me feel in control and clears my head, and it gives me something that I can feel proud of. It's a little adventure every day, and it's saved me from my own head, I owe it a lot and I think it can do the same for other people."

Sarah Perry: "There's nothing that I love more than packing up my bag for a long day in the hills, snacking my way along the miles and enjoying the views. As much as I love the challenge of ultras, my heart is really in my local hills on those long days out training with Murphy the dog. I do all of my best thinking whilst moving and enjoy the headspace, freedom and the beauty of the great outdoors."

Clovis Chaverot: "Running is a way of life and I want to be better everyday. It allows me to spend time in the mountains and feel reconnected to nature, whilst I also love competing against other good runners."

Heidi Rogers: "For me, running is all about freedom, adventure, and headspace. I love being out in the mountains, getting to explore new places, and meeting incredible people through the sport."

Why do INOV8 staff run?

Leanne: "There's nothing better for me than getting out in the fells whether on my own or with friends, running does wonders for my mental health."

Roger: "Two decades of running and the reasons are still the same: being out in nature, pushing myself, and finding that even on the days I’m not in the mood, I usually return feeling more alive."

Andy: "I love training in different ways but running grounds me the most, there's something about the natural movement that fits every mood and makes me feel good."

Jack: "In a world of staring at screens and sitting at desks, running is the perfect physical and mental reset. I feel privileged to be able to get outside, move my body and push my limits."
